IBS and Stress
Doctors do know that IBS and stress go hand in hand. Studies have shown that 50 to 90 percent of people who seek Irritable Bowel Syndrome treatment also suffer from panic disorders, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder. A person with IBS has a colon that is overly sensitive to even the slightest conflict or stress. In turn, stress makes the mind more aware of sensations in the colon. Worse yet, IBS symptoms can increase a person’s stress level.
